I travelled to Malta in 2020. At that time safety was a big topic due to Covid. I always felt safe and St.Julien is a city where a lot of students from all over the world get to know each other and learn English. That was my purpose too in the first place. But Malta really was impressive to me, especially M'dina! And all overall women can feel safe like in other western countries.

Overall Malta was lovely! I was traveling budget friendly so I stayed at granny’s inn hostel and it was clean and safe. I would highly recommend visiting Mdina, it’s a small bus ride from the main city of Valletta but it’s so worth it. I took the buses and despite the language barrier I found it very simple to navigate. The roads are pretty rough though so prep for bumping around.

Malta is truly very beautiful, and public transportation is very affordable. A bus ride costs 2€, and Ubers are also quite cheap. The food there was delicious and reasonably priced. I paid 18€ for a large portion of pasta and an Aperol. I felt very safe during the day, but it is recommended not to be alone in Malta at night.
Posted: January 30, 2024Malta was my first solo trip. It is very safe there, public transportation is quite good and there is a lot to see. I was there for 5 days and plan to return. Valetta is really charming, and Mdina and Rabat are places that you must see. It's very easy to get to Gozo and I used an open-top bus to tour the attractions. I am a very nervous person and I never felt uncomfortable there.
Posted: January 2, 2024Malta was my first solo trip and I really had a great time there. I used buses to explore and I felt very safe. Valletta is wonderful but crowded - I only went there for one day, visited the maritime museum and watched the cannon shooting. I stayed in a small, family-run hotel with a pool in St. Paul's Bay, which was ridiculously cheap, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Everyone was talking on the buses. I noticed that I prefer to eat the main meal at lunch time, people seemed more willing to chat, and eating lunch alone does not seem strange.
Posted: December 28, 2023I embarked on a solo trip to Malta in June, staying in Sliema and travelling around by bus. The bus system is extensive, but it may not be reliable. There were times when a local told me that the bus no longer stops there, so make sure you have plenty of time if you want to travel by bus. I also recommend downloading the bus app, as it shows actual bus arrival times. I swam, dived, and hiked solo, never feeling unsafe. Malta is very beautiful, with plenty of stunning landscapes.
Posted: December 27, 2023Malta is very safe and beautiful. My sister and I were there for a week. Excellent transport system. We stayed there in an Airbnb and went diving, horse riding and sightseeing wherever we wanted. We never felt unsafe.

Malta was really safe. Even as a woman, I had no problems or harassment. But always be careful with your belongings... It's not expensive, but in summer accommodation is more expensive and it's hard to find a good deal. As a solo traveler, it's better to have a single room, it's cheaper. I went to Campus Hub Malta (https://campushubmalta.com/). You can book your accommodation (the price depends on the period and type of room you book). If interrested you have to do that early (the process is not like booking or airbnb). And I had access to the swimming pool. For transportation, I used buses to go everywhere. There is differents options, I choose a 20 euro card for 7 days of unlimited travel. It was very useful. The only thing to know is that they often arrive late (in summer for sure). There is a bus from/to the airport. The ticket costs less than 3 euros and you can buy your week pass there. There is something very nice for solo travelers, the English Café. Almost every day there is an event where you can meet people. Highly recommended
Posted: December 6, 2023Experienced: August, 2022I fully recommend Malta. I went there for a solo trip for the first time in December last year. The island is perfectly connected by buses, so you can easily get anywhere. Practically everyone speaks English, and during my 5 days of solo travel, I never felt threatened or in danger.
Posted: November 4, 2023I felt so safe when travelling alone in Malta. I found so many solo tourists walking around that made me feel comfortable and understood! The views, food and sights made it such a memorable trip. Definitely going back.

I haven't faced any dangerous situations. I don't know about night clubs though. Walking alone after midnight has also been safe. People are quite respectful in Malta. I know the uni area best and I haven't noticed any problems there.
Posted: April 6, 2024After covid us Maltese got a bit worried about femicides as males started acting strange but overall police are being visible in streets and makes people feel safe. Bars and restaurants are 100% safe even the people who serve are very helpful.

I think that Malta is a good destination if you’re looking about nice view and some great activities. Visiting lagoon by boat, going to the beach etc. You can also eat at a good restaurant for a cheap price. They also speak English there so no problem communicating with locals.
Posted: April 26, 2024Last year I move to Malta alone. I didn't know what to do with my life and I decided to move there to practice my English. I found an amazing island and a so great people. I had to leave Malta with half of my heart there... But time to move to another aventura... NY!
